SONDER
Music meets design
‘As a street musician, you have to work hard to win your sonic space. Cities offer success on the streets with constant movement of people but noise is hard competition.’
Sonder is an acoustic shell creating a sonic space in which passer-by’s immerse themselves into the sound of street musicians. Through shape and material, Sonder amplifies and projects the sound of the musician naturally and controlled onto the street. With the world heading towards fast virtual interactions, one click payments through an application are possible. Sonder creates an intimate listening space dedicated to the musical talent of Barcelona and encourages spontaneous connections across cultural boundaries.
INSPIRATION
EXPLORATION
Concept 1 has different sizes that draw attention and relate to physics of sound. However it will be challenging to produce involving two dimensional curves. Concept 2 holds a strong visual impact. However the edges appear too dangerous and sharp. Concept 3 creates a sonic passage presenting interesting collaboration opportunities as well as an intimate listening space. Concept 4 is very organic and offers an abundance of posibitions for musicians to play in. However the sound relfections are too unpredictable.
Musical frequencies are based on the ratios of the first 7 numbers of the Fibonacci sequence.Using the ratios relating to the root, minor third, major third, fifth and octave, the length of the sheets are calculated. Where 1/1 is 3000 mm long. Using these ratios create different reflections on to the ground. In order to determine the difference it makes in acoustics, many real-time measurements would have to be undertaken.
